CMBA Meeting Notes
Health Insurance & Crime Prevention
During the February CMBA meeting, Meng Su, an independent insurance broker/consultant,
presented information on Health Insurance for Small Business. She
explained the history of Oregon health insurance including SB152 Insurance
Reform, effective in 1997, which governs Small Employer Health Insurance.
The CMBA is beginning to investigate group health insurance as a
possible member benefit. Meng Su explained that Oregon regulators
are currently revising association guidelines and carriers are waiting
for updates before offering association plans. At this point, she
said that the seven carriers she contacted indicated that they were
not interested or would require a 500 or 1000 headcount to quote

We also heard from Doreen Rivera, Crime Prevention Officer for the
Washington County Sheriff's Office. Her job is to “educate people on
how to keep businesses and homes safe.” Doreen is willing to visit
your business and perform a safety audit. She will then offer suggestions
for crime prevention – including
burglary, shoplifting, and employee theft. Her prior experience includes
working as a retail loss prevention officer for Target. Doreen will
be sharing crime prevention tips at future CMBA meetings. Please contact

The next meeting of the CMBA will be held on Tuesday, March 20 at
noon in the
Cedar Mill Community Library meeting room. The topic will be, “How
the Small Business Administration Can Help Your Business.” Also Bill
Rawson, CMBA President, will present the concept drawings for the
new banner designs and other Cedar Mill identity pieces. Please join us!
