Library News and Events

Your Community Needs Your Donations Today!

During these tough economic times Second Edition’s donated merchandise has been flying off the shelves! Can you help us meet our community’s growing need for reasonably priced household items, jewelry, gently-used or like-new furniture, art, antiques and clothing?

All profits from Second Edition sales support the Library. Please visit www.cedarmill.org/library for donation guidelines and bring your donations in on weekdays during open business hours. Your community thanks you!

The library’s Winter Reading & Arts Festival continues with two free events in March:

Celtic Muse

Harpists Jennifer Pratt-Walter and Valerie Blessley will perform as Celtic Muse on Saturday, March 14, 3-4 pm. This concert, originally scheduled to be held in December, was a casualty of our snow storm. We're delighted that Jennifer and Valerie were able to reschedule this event so close to St. Patrick’s Day when the beauty and mystical power of the Celtic harp will be especially appealing.

Truman PriceOregon Trail

The festival’s final event, another Oregon Historical Society’s Folklife program, takes place on Saturday, March 21, 3-4 pm with Truman Price presenting Songs & Stories from the Oregon Trail. Truman grew up in Southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley learning to play traditional music from his father and going to square dances at the local Grange. Later, in West Virginia, he learned mountain music from old masters by observation and practice. Truman has done extensive research into Oregon’s musical history and traditions and especially enjoys working with young people to “pass on the music and the lore.”

These Festival events will be held in the library’s upstairs meeting room. They are free, require no registration, and will appeal to all ages.

Visit the library’s website at www.cedarmill.org/library more information, or call 503-644-0043 ext 114

red hot readsBest Seller Collection

Cedar Mill Community Library now has a Best Seller collection. Like Best Seller items at other Washington County Libraries, they are non-holdable and cannot be renewed. Books check out for two weeks & DVDs check out for one week. The collection is located on the red carts near check-out.

At Bethany: new books and DVDs are non-holdable, which makes them very much like a best seller collection (although these items check out for 3 weeks).
