Calling All Summer Volunteers

Cedar Mill Community Library, Bethany Branch, and Second Edition Resale Shop are now taking applications for spring and summer volunteer positions. We have openings in book shelving, media specialists (DVD, CD, Books on CD), and processing books-on-hold in the libraries. The Second Edition Resale Shop, which is a permanent fundraiser for the two libraries, has openings for Cashiers and Sales Associates, especially Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

All volunteers for these positions need to be at least 14 or in 9th grade. Most volunteer positions require a six-month commitment of two-three hours per week, but summer-only volunteers can commit to the three summer months.

Volunteers aged 12 and above can apply to help with the Summer Reading Program at both libraries, staffing the sign up table to help children register for the program, and handing out awards for completed reading logs. The special Summer Reading Program Volunteer Application is available on our website or can be picked up in either library.

Applications can be found in all three locations or on our website at cedarmill.org/library on the Volunteer page. Contact Kevin Kelley at 503-644-0043 ext 111 or kevinke@wccls.org for information.

Technology Petting Zoo

We will unveil our new Media Maker Kits at our Technology Petting Zoo on Wednesday, May 8 at 6 pm, at the Cedar Mill Library. Kits: Mobile Podcast, Videocasting, Movie production, Music production, Post production, Graphic production, Post production Laptop, and Post production IPAD.

Ever wanted to try your hand at recording music or making and editing a podcast or video? Maybe you don’t have the right equipment or know what to buy?

Thanks to an anonymous family foundation grant, the library has purchased several multimedia items that will help library users record and edit media in a variety of formats.

Some of our Media Maker Kits will be available to check-out (non-holdable), while most of the editing devices will be available for in library use exclusively at the Cedar Mill Library.

The kits will be available soon after our May 8 program.
