Color trends, like fashion, change cyclically and typically last from 10-12 years. If you haven’t painted your home in 10 years or more, you might want to consider getting your house painted. Today’s color trends are richer, darker and more vibrant than years past. Colors that look dated are whites, light grays, tans and peaches. The newer trends are mocha browns, meadow greens, rich grays and blues. Instead of white-white trim, new options are creamy off whites and ivories. With spring almost gone and full sunny days just around the corner, now is also the time to start lining up your painter. You will need at least five full days of sun for an exterior painting job which starts with a thorough power wash of your home, and then a good day or two to dry before starting paint. A typical paint project will take 5—7 days. Painter’s schedules are starting to fill up, and if you wait too long they will already be booked out through the fall, or even next spring. So bring on the sun, and get started! Join Caryl Hoffman on May 15 for a free 20-minute paint color consultation at the Sherman Williams store in Cedar Mill. Downtown Cedar Mill bloomsThe Cedar Mill Business Association is once again sponsoring the flower basket displays on light poles along Cornell in our “downtown” area. Installation and maintenance for this cheerful display is provided by The Garden Corner, and paid for by CMBA members and businesses in the area, along with donations from YOU! CMBA members will be manning a booth at the Farmers Market on various Saturdays throughout the season. If you enjoy the flowers, feel free to donate—everything is helpful. The group completed another successful Cornell Cleanup—did you see the pile of trash bags awaiting disposal? They’ll be at it again this fall, and they can use your help. Because we’re not in a city, it’s up to us to keep our downtown pleasant. Moving Season? It's moving season and Americans are once again facing the stress of packing their lives into boxes and hoping everything arrives in one piece. Once you choose that perfect home, the packing professionals at The UPS Store, located at 10940 SW Barnes Road, want to help ensure that your precious household items arrive in one piece. Despite reasonable fears about broken items, a majority of Americans still try to get by with packing items in newspaper, clothes, sheets, towels or blankets, or tissue paper, rather than seeking professional recommendations on packing supplies. Tim offers the following suggestions to help you take control of your next big move: Come to The UPS Store and get a great deal on new boxes of all sizes, specially engineered to withstand the stress of a move. Moving boxes are on sale for 50% off until the end of August. Buy enough of the right materials. By using the right packaging materials, including bubble pack and foam packaging peanuts, there is less of a chance that your dishes or family heirlooms will end up in pieces. Leave it to professionals to handle large, expensive or irreplaceable items. The UPS Store® offers packing and freight services, which can be an affordable and reliable alternative to standard movers. For those move-it-yourselfers, The UPS Store carries all types of moving supplies, packaging tape, bubble pack, and foam packaging peanuts. Virtue of the month: Cheerfulness“There is one thing one has to have: either a soul that is cheerful by nature or a soul made cheerful by work, love, art and knowledge.” Francoise-Marie Voltaire. “Cheerfulness is seeing the bright side, looking for the good in whatever happens. It is maintaining a positive attitude of optimism and confidence. When we give cheerfully, we are wholeheartedly helpful. Even when life is challenging, we make the best of it. We trust that all will be well. We nurture happiness. A cheerful smile can light up everyone’s day.” From Virtues Reflection Cards www.virtuesproject.com.
