THPRD Board Election recommendations
by Virginia Bruce
We included answers to two Cedar Mill-related questions in an article in this month's paper.
Question 1: What can be done to increase the number of “in-district” households in the Northeast quadrant? (Cedar Mill, Bethany)
Questions 2: If you are elected, will you work to increase support for cultural, historical, and community programs and offerings for the residents of Urban Unincorporated Washington County? If so, what are some programs you would support?
I have been asked for my recommendations, so here they are. Be sure to turn your ballot in to the Cedar Mill Library or the Washington County Elections Office at 3700 SW Murray Blvd, by tomorrow, Tuesday, May 21, 8 pm.
Position 2: Wendy Kroger
Her opponent failed to respond and doesn't seem particularly serious about the position. Wendy is a dedicated public servant who has been working to understand and respond to our issues.
Position 3: Ashley Hartmeir-Prigg
Her answers to our questions demonstrated a good understanding of the issues. Her opponent, while he provided interesting answers to our questions, has a history of insider dealing with sports organizations and too much focus on sports over other community services.
Position 4: John Griffiths
His answers showed good understanding of, and commitment to, our issues. His experience on the Board should be helpful in achieving progress. We liked Heidi Edwards' comments and hope to see her in other local races soon.
Position 5: Tya Ping
This was one of the hardest choices, but we based this recommendation on her recognition that there is a difference in the needs of residents of Urban Unincorporated County, who don’t receive services from cities. Both Aluru and Kavianian had good ideas, but didn’t seem to get the difference.
