There are several current opportunities to share your opinion on various local issues just now. We’re grouping them together here for convenience.

Why bother answering a survey? Jurisdictions really do use survey results when making decisions. They know that only a subset of the general population will bother, but getting your viewpoint, and that of our community, on their list, is a good idea. I’m including the approximate time needed with each one.

Bike/Pedestrian Improvement Projects

Washington County Land Use and Transportation (LUT) wants to hear from you about their proposed list of bike/ped improvements. A total of $11.4 million in Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD) and state funding has been earmarked for construction of sidewalks, pedestrian paths and bicycle facilities. URMDAC members have developed a 250% Proposed Project List - a list of projects totaling about $28 million - or about two-and-a-half times the available funding. The public is asked to help trim the 250% Proposed Project List by about two-thirds by providing input on individual projects.

An example of a previously funded project is the addition of sidewalks to NW Thompson Road to connect the gaps.

This survey shows you the proposed improvements on a map and asks you to click on any of them that you are interested in and make a comment. Time required depends on how many you choose to comment on. The only one that is in Cedar Mill is a proposed sidewalk on Filbert between Murray and Saltzman.

Housing and Service Needs

Washington County and the cities of Beaverton and Hillsboro are conducting a survey to better understand the housing and service needs of our residents. Your answers will help us determine how to target scarce federal resources to the highest priority needs over the next five years. Your responses are anonymous and much appreciated. This survey should take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

Three $100 gift cards will be awarded from a random drawing at the close of the survey. If you are interested in participating in the drawing, you can add your information at the end of the survey. Your survey responses will be separated from your email address and your responses will remain confidential.

Northwest in Motion Project Online Open House

Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) wants to make Portland’s Northwest District safer and more convenient for walking, biking, and taking public transit. Through the Northwest in Motion project, they will develop a list of specific projects that can be built in and around the neighborhood over the next five years.

If you visit or drive through Northwest Portland (think Cornell to Lovejoy) you can share your opinion on the traffic-calming proposals that discourage driving. Topics are Neighborhood Greenways, Transit Improvements, and Corridor Safety Improvements.

The “Open House” consists of a map showing the three types of proposed improvements. Time needed depends on how many aspects of the proposals you care to comment on. Once you click on a feature, you get a description and a chance to comment.
