‘Round the Town

One of Cedar Mill’s larger businesses, Pacific Office Automation, has broken ground on their new building just over Highway 26 in the Cornell Oaks Corporate Center. The new $10-million facility will be ready for occupancy sometime early in 2006. Pacific Office Automation sells and services copiers, fax, scanning, color, storage and workflow devices and provides office automation hardware and software.

Founded in 1976, the company has nearly 500 employees in offices in Oregon, Washington and Arizona. The new building will allow them to consolidate approximately 200 employees currently located among several other Washington County business parks. We hope they still consider themselves a Cedar Mill-based business! (July 2003 featured business)

Veterinarian Rick White of Cedar Mill Veterinary is proceeding with the remodel on his facility at the corner of Barnes and Cornell after razing the old Cedar Mill Garage building (see the October 2004 CM News for history). Sorry to see the old 1919 structure go, but it wasn’t much to look at, was it?

The Hobitt Café closed its doors after 40 years of operation when owner Dabra Shields left the area. The sudden closure and liquidation of fixtures caught everyone by surprise. Ryan Egge of Bales Property Management, the owners of the building, is searching for a replacement for the coffee shop, a regular stop for many of Cedar Mill’s longtime residents. I’ll sure miss those sourdough pancakes! (February 2004 featured business)

Work on the north end of the Teufel property has begun with the extensive clearing and grading that will create an access road southbound from Cornell into Polygon Northwest Company’s development. Approximately 300 townhomes will comprise the first phase of the 1500-unit complex.

Leedy Grange's new entrance on Saltzman

Cedar Mill’s Leedy Grange got a facelift courtesy of the county after the sidewalk installation chopped the front porch off the building. The new main entrance is off to the side now. (March 2004 History in the News)
