CMBA Meeting Notes

Cedar Mill Business Association members had a special treat at their October 13 meeting when the Sauvie Island Sweet & Savory Food Company brought some of their extraordinary cheesecake to share for lunch in addition to the regular free pizza.

Members were reminded that it will soon be time to renew their membership. We will again be discounting the regular $85/year fee for any business who joins at or before the annual Holiday Social on December 8. Join by then for only $75 and you’ll get a year’s membership plus ten extra tickets for the raffle of great prizes at the Social.

We heard reports from several committees, including the Downtown Beautification Committee on the Cornell Cleanup that was held on October 3. The event was a success, getting rid of weeds and pruning trees in the Town Center.

Dean Shade, our local lawyer, told us about Estate Planning Basics. In addition to presenting a lot of useful information, he told us what to expect when working with a lawyer, and what questions to ask.

Beth Giles, of NW Organizing Solutions, gave the “10 Minutes of Fame” talk, letting us know about the services her company can perform for seniors, whether they’re staying in their home or moving to a smaller place.

Our next meeting will be on November 10 and will include a presentation by Sharon Straus, founder of the Sunshine Pantry. She will tell us how to help those in need in our community. Attendees are invited to bring donations for the Pantry, which serves people in Washington County. Straus suggests some items that are particularly needed. “Donations can be sugar, vegetable oil, diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, soap, and laundry soap.” Warm winter clothing is also welcome.

Poppa's Haven will get their "10 Minutes of Fame" and the rumor is that they'll bring along some of their delicious coffee for us to try.

Another special dessert is in store for this meeting, so come and join us on November 10, 11:45 for networking and lunch, with the program beginning at noon and ending at 1 pm.
