Master Recycler training offeredInterested in expanding your knowledge about waste reduction, recycling, alternatives to hazardous household products, deconstruction, green building, and composting? The Master Recycler Program is a popular eight-week course involving one-night-per-week classes and two weekend field trips. This well-organized program is provided through a collaboration of the City of Portland Master Recycler Program and Washington County Solid Waste and Recycling Program. By offering classes in Washington County, area residents interested in educating the community about the three Rs—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle—will be available to put their new knowledge to work staffing informational booths at community events, delivering presentations, and working on special projects. Throughout the year you'll often see Master Recyclers at local farmers' markets, fairs and community events, and many other venues. Registration is now open! Spring 2011 classes will be held 6:30-9 pm in Hillsboro on Wednesdays, March 30 to April 18 PLUS two Saturday field trips - April 9 and May 7. Attendance is required at every date. There is a $50 fee for the course to offset costs. Deadline for applications is February 17. This is a popular course. To ensure a positive learning experience and adequate support for volunteers, class size is limited to 30 people. Applications will be accepted up to the deadline and then 30 people will be selected through a weighted lottery. All applicants will receive notification of their status in the class and next steps. For more information about the program or the volunteer payback commitment, contact the Master Recycler Program at 503-823-7530 or go online to www.masterrecycler.org.
