Tazza offers Friday dinner

Tazza Neighborhood Cafe is offering dinner on Friday nights. The delicious fare includes grilled beef and chicken skewers, grilled vegetables, and seafood specialties all seasoned with owner Saeed Rad's special blend of herbs and spices. And you can choose from a terrific selection of local beers or wines.

Learn to Make Your Own Wreath

The holiday season approaches, and in gift-giving it is good to remember that the most meaningful gifts are not bought—they are made. A wreath, the form of a circle, has no beginning and no end; and the evergreens attached to it mean ever-alive. So the next time you see a wreath, you can look at it not only as a decoration, but as a symbol of something more.

To help you with your gift giving, local independent garden center Cornell Farm has invited Robyn Pope, renowned West Coast garden designer and wreath designer for Smith & Hawken, Crate & Barrel, and Gardener's Eden, to host a workshop where she will lead you through the process of making exceptional holiday wreaths. The workshop will take place Nov. 26, noon-1:30 pm, at Cornell Farm, 8212 Barnes Rd.

Game and Craft Night at Paladan

Paladan Elementary, Portland's only private elementary school for TAG students, is hosting a Community Game & Craft night Friday, Nov. 18 from 5-9 pm at their location in Bethany Village. This event is free and is open to all TAG students ages five to ten. Games will include chess, Scrabble, Dixit, Go, Chinese chess, Pentago, puzzles, crafts and Zome, and they will be serving pizza from Papa John's. Space is limited, so RSVP to (503) 645-3377. Join World of Smiles in Community Giving

World of Smiles, Pediatric Dentistry is proud to be a part of the Oregon Mission of Mercy this year. The first event of its kind on the West Coast was held last November and drew in over 2,000 patients in need of immediate dental care. Thousands of donated dental supplies, and hundreds of volunteers came together to put on an amazing show of compassion to the surrounding community. The Oregon Dental Association and its partners are again asking volunteers to join the cause. While dentists, dental assistants, hygienists, and dental lab technicians are needed, community volunteers are needed as well to serve as patient escorts, help run registration, and provide translation services to those that will be waiting in line for over 24 hours for free dental care. Join World of Smiles on Nov. 21-22 at the Oregon Convention Center and prepare for your life to be changed!

In the meantime, don't forget to spread the word that their Annual Candy Exchange will be up and running November 1-7 at World of Smiles! Visit during regular business hours and kids can exchange their unopened Halloween Loot for toys and prizes. All hard candies will be sent to the troops overseas through Operation Gratitude, so feel welcome to bring a card or letter to the troops as well as a candy contribution!

Recycling with NW Organizing Solutions

November 15th is "America Recycles Day." This is a great reminder to think twice before dropping things in the trash. As you sort through your belongings and organize your home, you may find items that you no longer need or want. Keep an eye out for multiples or items that may be broken, outdated, or no longer serving a function. While reducing the amount of things in our homes, it is wonderful to know we have many disposal options available. It is easy to share your cast-offs with someone else who can reuse or recycle. No longer do you have to trash even the most unusual things like old paint, miscellaneous lumber pieces, or worn out sneakers.

Village Gallery News

November's featured artist is Bonnie Tucker. Her bold and vibrant collage art is textured using layers of hand painted papers, acrylic paint and found objects. Having been totally deaf since infancy, Ms. Tucker's world is focused on sight and feeling. The intensity of that sight and feeling has led to the celebration of visual and tactile effects that is so forcefully expressed in her work.

Youth classes (ages 7-12) for the month of November include a general children's art class with Terri Gonzalez and a book-making class with Sarah Fagan. Adult classes include acrylic painting with instructor Kristi Roberts, glass lamp-making with Veronica Lake, book-making with Patti Isaacs, watermedia with Liz Walker, drawing with Sofia Chimaras, and watercolors with Emma Achleithner and Chris Keylock.

The Gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday 10-4 pm, Sunday noon-4 pm, and closed on Mondays. It is located next to the Cedar Mill Library at 12305 NW Cornell Road. SeguraCash turns an ATM into a time-release safe

Peregrin Financial Technologies, headquartered in Cedar Mill, has announced it's latest innovation in cash logistics. Merchants who need fast and controlled access to cash for CODs, lottery payouts or any other reason, can now use the ATM machine already at their location, along with a Peregrin-provided mag-stripe card, to get cash without incurring bank charges.

Peregrin has partnered with Columbus Data Services, the leading provider of ATM processing, to offer this new service. With a SeguraCash enabled ATM, each transaction can be monitored by management in real time via a website. Eliminating the need for a time-release safe relieves employees of the time-consuming and error-prone task of loading tubes with cash, and provides more accurate withdrawals by offering amounts in $20 increments.

Bales donates to 9/11 Memorial

Bales' bookkeeper, Joanne, used to live in New York City, and wanted to do something this September to help with the 9/11 Memorial. Manager Vince Lucibello agreed, and they scheduled a barbecue for September 10. Assistant manager Dave Best, Vince, and Joanne manned the grill on what turned out to be one of the hottest days of the year so they weren't able to raise much money. Then they offered employees a deal—donate $2 for each day the employee wore jeans to work. The money raised from that, plus tips donated by Starbucks employees, allowed them to raise $1000 to sponsor a paver in the Memorial Plaza. Joanne holds the plaque they received from the fund.

Kumon opens Cedar Mill location

We are starting up a new location of Kumon Math and Reading —Kumon Math and Reading Center of Cedar Mill. The location will be up and running starting December 1.

Kumon is the world's largest after-school math and reading enrichment program. The Kumon Program unlocks the potential of children so they can achieve more on their own. It allows students of all ages and abilities to build the skills necessary to have a richer, more successful education experience.
