Sunset News
Sports, Shakespeare, and giving
By Nicole Nagel

volleyballAs November arrives, fall sports seasons are ending. However, it's the most intense and exciting part of the season as playoffs have arrived. The varsity women's volleyball team hopes to make it to the "elite eight," following up two consecutive years of earning third place in the state championships. Although the team lost eight seniors, they are "still strong" this year, as their poster slogan puts it. The elite eight dukes it out at Century High School, Thursday November 10 through Saturday November 12.

With Sunset's men's soccer ranked first in the league, women's soccer second, men's water polo third, football third, men's cross-country third, and women's cross-country second, there are a lot of teams that should journey far into their state tournaments. This means there are numerous opportunities to get out, enjoy some exhilarating competition, and show your Apollo pride!

The Sunset drama department has been working diligently to deliver a spectacular performance, and their days before opening night are dwindling. Come enjoy the culmination of their efforts on one of the three production nights. Shakespeare's Macbeth will be performed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday November 17-19, with a 7:30 pm curtain. For students and seniors, tickets are $7, or $6 with ASB, and general admission is $10. Tickets can be bought at the door or through brownpapertickets.com. Don't miss out!

With the holiday season approaching, the largest clubs at Sunset—National Honor Society, Key Club, International Baccalaureate Advisory, Leadership, and Link Crew—are teaming up to run a school-wide winter charity drive focused around homeless teenagers. The drive will begin late November and will go into full steam during the month of December. Collections will likely include hygiene products, canned foods, socks, lip balm, and art supplies. Details will follow in the December issue, as plans will be more concrete. In the meantime, if you would like to make a donation, simply drop it off in Sunset's main office and say it's for the winter charity drive. All donations are greatly appreciated.
