Sunset High School fall sports, time for playoffs!
By Marlee Leonard

With fall coming to an end and winter just around the corner, Sunset High School’s fall sports teams will be heading to playoffs! Although Cross Country has already finished up, placing second in the boys and girls races—football, soccer, and volleyball hopefully still have a long road ahead.

This year’s boys’ soccer team is ranked nineteenth in state and is into the second round of playoffs after their win against Lakeridge last weekend. The boys placed fourth in league play this year, and are hopeful for this upcoming playoff season. As for the girls team, they will be playing Clackamas on November 4 at Clackamas High School for the second round of playoffs as well, after winning 1-0 against Lake Oswego on Saturday. “It was a great game and we all played together very well. There was something about it being a playoff game that made us more excited and pumped up,” said senior Alex Bibo. The girls have gone 6-2-5 this season which isn’t as well as they have done in the past, placing second in state last year, but still hope to get the win next game.

When the soccer games become too intense, the fun, spirited, and lively football playoff games become some of the best Friday nights for the whole family! This year’s football team has been doing better than expected; having a record of five wins and only three losses. They begin their playoff journey November 7 at Sprague High School. The game starts at 7 pm for those that want to make the trek to Salem and support the team!

After beating Roseburg, Thurston, and Century last week, the high school Volleyball team is also looking forward to the playoff season. The team has had a very good season, doing better than expected as well. The girls are now in the state tournament this coming week and hope to make it through the weekend by continuing to win. The championship will take place this weekend at Liberty High School with times TBD.
