Oak Hills Holiday BazaarFriday and Saturday, December 5 & 6, 10 am - 5 pm, Oak Hills Rec Center Organize your shopping lists and plan to shop local at next month's Oak Hills Holiday Bazaar. The bazaar has become a very popular event offering a wide variety of unique and hand-made items of all kinds and in all price ranges. There are still a few tables available for local artists and crafters who would like to sell their hand-made items at this popular event. Table registrations are now open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Holiday Concert to Benefit the Oregon Food BankSunday, December 7, 6:30 pm, Christ United Methodist Church 12755 NW Dogwood Street Hoffman Academy of Music will present a Holiday Concert to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. Mr. Hoffman, director of Hoffman Academy of Music, and several Academy teachers will entertain the audience with songs of the season. The Academy hosted benefit concerts in 2011 and 2012, and is happy to bring this event back to the Cedar Mill community this year. This family-friendly event is open to everyone in the community, and is free with the donation of two cans or boxes of food per person. Refreshments will follow the performance. For the third year in a row, the Oregon Food Bank statewide network of regional food banks distributed more than 1 million emergency food boxes, and 3.9-million emergency meals were served at soup kitchens and shelters. Thirty four percent of those receiving emergency food are children. In addition to providing food to those in need, the Oregon Food Bank works to eliminate the root causes of hunger through advocacy, nutrition education, garden education and through working with communities to strengthen local food systems. French American International School Holiday MarketDecember 6, 10 am– 3 pm, FAIS Campus 8500 NW Johnson Street This annual holiday market, held on the NW Portland campus of the French American International School, is always popular for its high-end array of vendors and merchandise as well as its distinctly international atmosphere. This festive event, admission-free, gives guests the opportunity to sample wine, sausages, and gourmet cheeses, while shopping for unique and special gifts. Over 45 local vendors will be selling distinctive items such as handmade hats and handbags, soy candles, bamboo clothing, French table linens, bonsai, and soaps, as well as gift-worthy jewelry, ceramics, and crafts. A local wine specialist will offer a selection of wines and cheeses perfect for serving and giving this season. There will be entertainment throughout the day, provided by musicians and dancers, student choral groups, and Pendulum, FAIS’ in-residence aerial arts troupe. The Holiday Market is a special project of the FAIS Parent Liaison Committee. Past year’s proceeds have been used to fund professional development for staff members, athletic equipment, and the maintenance and signage of the School’s nature trail. Parking and Admission are free!
