Leedy Grange News
Leedy Market—from fleas to artisans!Saturday, November 7, 9 am-1 pm, Leedy Grange Hall, 835 NW Saltzman Bernadine Capell, better known as “Bernie,” has taken over the management of Leedy’s first-Saturday marketplace as of this month. The previous manager, Jeannine Claar, recently changed jobs and found it impossible to keep up with the demands of managing the project, so the market took the summer off. Bernie has been a vendor at the Market for several seasons, and previously managed special events for Uwajimaya Grocery in Beaverton. She plans to continue the “homey and welcoming” atmosphere, while striving to attract fewer “garage sale” type vendors and more folks offering arts, crafts, collectibles and antiques. Come on down and check out the variety of stuff for sale, and if you have a collection of goodies, consider getting a table—it’s only $15 with no percentage of sales. Eat Smart Food Movie SeriesSaturday, November 21, 6:30 Social, 7 pm screening, Leedy Grange Hall The award-winning documentary, The Real Dirt on Farm John, will be the November film in the series. This free program is co-sponsored by the library and Leedy Grange. Defying all odds, John Peterson, a Midwestern farmer, gradually transforms his land into the revolutionary CSA farming community Angelic Organics, a cultural mecca, where people work and flourish providing fresh vegetables and herbs to thousands of people every week. Leedy Grange began the series last year, and is delighted to partner with the Cedar Mill Library, who is assisting with obtaining public screening rights and media. Our area, like many others, has hundreds of people who, for of a variety of reasons and hardships, are forced to live on the streets. This year, to help those local folks in need, Sunset Credit Union and the Leedy Grange have created a “Giving Tree.’” In Sunset Credit Union’s lobby (located at 1100 NW Murray Blvd.) there is a tree with tags on it. The tags will have requests for much-needed items and for gift cards, which will then be donated to these families. Gift recipients will be selected by BSD’s HELP Center staff. If you’d like to help, stop by the CU and take a gift tag request off the tree. You can purchase the item on the tag anywhere it is convenient for you, and bring it back to the CU. We will also have pre-purchased gift cards in a variety of dollar amounts, so you can purchase the card at the CU. All donations will be given to these homeless families on Monday, December 21st. This holiday season, please help Sunset Credit Union and the Leedy Grange make a positive impact for homeless families in the area. The ‘Giving Tree’ will be in Sunset Credit Union’s lobby from November 2 through December 14. Please stop by the credit union, grab a gift-tag and help make the holidays enjoyable for everyone!
