119th sidewalk updateAccording to Gary Stockhoff, Capital Project Management, "Washington County was informed it was not successful in securing a federal grant to install a sidewalk along NW 119th Avenue (McDaniel to Cornell). The county is very grateful for the outpouring of community support for the grant application, and this strong community support is part of the reason that design work on the project will continue." Stockhoff explained that funding for the project will come from HB 2001, which was approved by the Legislature in 2009. This legislation raised vehicle registration fees and the gas tax statewide, with the resulting additional revenues being eligible for use on capital projects. More information will be forthcoming as the design proceeds and the team has a better picture of what the improvements will look like. The county anticipates that the project will be advertised for construction bids in the fall of 2011. NEWS HOME |
