Make a difference—join a county board!

Throughout the month of February, Washington County is soliciting applications from members of the public for the following advisory groups. If you have experience in one of these fields, or a passion for improving the way our government deals with them, visit the website and learn the qualifications and duties for the one you’re interested in.

  • Aging and Veteran Services Advisory Council
  • Behavioral Health Council
  • Housing Advisory Committee
  • Public Health Advisory Council
  • Solid Waste Advisory Committee

Boards, committees and commissions advise the Board of Commissioners (BCC)  on matters of interest to people who live and work in Washington County. Committees themselves do not pass ordinances to establish policy; their purpose is to study issues and make recommendations. Commission members are volunteers appointed by the County Board of Commissioners. In many cases, members must be residents of Washington County. Serving on an appointed board or commission is a great way for Washington County residents to participate in decisions that affect them and to learn more about how local government works.
