Featured Business
All of them!
By Virginia Bruce

This month, we're bringing you a business map of Cedar Mill's downtown area to help you find local places to get the goods and services you need. Our centerfold includes most of the "bricks and mortar" businesses in the area. We attempted to contact everyone, and although we missed a few, we hope you'll find this map and directory helpful when you shop locally. We plan to make this an annual feature of the News, so if we missed your business this year, be sure to fill out our form and we'll include you next year.

The paper version of the map lists all the businesses with their address and phone number. That information is also available in the online Business Directory

Shop locally

Whether the price of gas goes up or down, there are a lot of great reasons to patronize nearby businesses. Less running around town saves you time and the stress of dealing with traffic and parking—no parking meters in Cedar Mill!

In addition, local businesses employ more local people, whether they are small locally-run companies or a part of a larger chain. And the taxes they pay stay in the county to build our sidewalks and pay our sheriff deputies.

It's much easier to get to know the local folks, too. They like working here, and they're glad to form lasting relationships with customers that lead to greater satisfaction and better service. Special orders? For our neighbors, sure!

Full-size prints of the map and the directory will be available around town for several months

In addition to the map above, we have been busy updating the online Cedar Mill Business Directory (cedarmill.org/biz). It is separated by category, and includes links to email and websites so you can check out the businesses before you go.

Additional copies of the map alone will be available at all our usual News outlets. If you want extra copies to distribute to your customers or organizations, please email me at info@cedarmillnews.com.

This project was made possible with the help of a team of talented, diligent and dedicated Sunset High students. Ashaen Patel has done most of the website directory work. Nicole Hagel designed the map, and Marita Sailor put the names and numbers on it. Those three, along with Jasmine Kim, fanned out through the downtown area with forms to collect the information. The revenue from the logos on the map and the ads on the back will go toward paying them for their time. These student interns plan to continue to work on the News, as their schedule allows, throughout the coming school year. We're all very excited about this issue and the ongoing partnership!
