Celtic Muse Opens Winter Reading & Arts Festival on December 19
By Dawn Anderson
The library is happy to present the second annual Winter Reading & Arts Festival, with events scheduled from December 19 to March 21, 2009. The Festival will combine literature and reading enjoyment with programs by local artists and performers who reflect the multicultural dimensions of Cedar Mill and Bethany. The “Reading” portion of this year’s Festival will center on Lauren Kessler’s The Stubborn Twig, selected for the statewide 2009 Oregon Reads project.
The Festival starts on Friday, December 19 with a concert by local harpists Jennifer Pratt-Walter and Valerie Blessley, performing together as “Celtic Muse.” Jennifer and Valerie delight in offering the beauty and mystical power of the Celtic harp to audiences of all ages. Both artists studied with Marion Fouse, renowned classical Portland harpist and have been together since 1995. Jennifer and Valerie both teach harp, and enjoy composing and arranging. They hope to spread a message of joy, peace, and hope with their music and instruments. The concert is free, open to the public, and will begin at 7 pm in the library’s upstairs meeting room. No reservation required.
