 Harmony School takes on the recession!
Please join The Harmony School, located at 12849 NW Cornell Rd. for the original, fun filled performance of “A Day in the Life”. This family show will be filled with many of your favorite story book characters and Princesses, all wondering why their life is harder than the others. Or is it? Will Chicken Little ever start making sense? Join us Saturday, March 21st to find out. Matinee performance at 3 pm, evening performance at 5 pm. Seating is very limited. Harmony Summer School
The Harmony School will be offering a wonderful Summer School program from 9 am to 3 pm. Monday-Friday beginning the first Monday after the school year ends (date may vary due to school cuts and early closures).
Every week will be packed with exciting activities—from planting a garden and learning about hydroponics to mask making and basket weaving to writing your own book, play, or autobiography. Outdoor activities may include berry picking and swimming (private pool) and will need special permission from parents.  Toys For Tots Literacy Program at The UPS Store
For more than 60 years, Toys for Tots has been bringing smiles to the faces of needy children through the gift of a new toy. While Toys for Tots is committed to this tradition and continues its toy program, in March 2008, along with the national network of The UPS Store franchise locations, it extended its reach with its first year-round initiative, the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.
This initiative supports children in need by providing books and educational materials to help break the cycle of poverty.
Why do we need your help?
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 12.8 million children live in poverty. That number is greater than the combined populations of New York City and Los Angeles. It is estimated that the cost of illiteracy to business and taxpayers is $20 billion per year.
According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 33% of all fourth graders in this country still cannot read at even the basic level. In low-income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is one age-appropriate book for every 300 children.
Donate
Every dollar donated to the program will benefit children, libraries, schools and other educational programs in or near the communities where the funds are raised. Your support can make a difference in the lives of the millions of children who live in poverty.
The UPS Store at 10940 SW Barnes Rd. in Peterkort Towne Square is gearing up for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program donation drive during the month of March. We encourage you to donate at least $1 as part of the “Buck a Book” initiative. When you donate, we put your name(s) on one of our Teddy Bear cards and hang it on our wall of fame. This money goes towards purchasing books through, our partners the Toys for Tots Literacy Program, and Scholastic Publishing Company. Scholastic has agreed to sell children’s books for $1 each and then they’re donated to children in our local communities. Smiles for Health and Safety Extravaganza
Hey parents, we have an exciting event for you and your children! On April 6th from 9-11 am World of Smiles Pediatric Dentistry will be hosting “Smile for Health and Safety Extravaganza.” Enjoy snacks provided by Pizza Schmizza, a full complimentary service coffee cart, healthy drinks for kids, as well as fun yet educational information for everyone.

Village Gallery News
The Village Gallery of Arts March group show will feature watercolorist Terri Gonzalez. She teaches children’s art classes in her home and at The Village Gallery of Arts. Her art has been shown at Portland City Hall, Doll Gardner Gallery, The Art of Change Gallery and the Village Gallery of Arts. The all media show runs March 3 through April 4th, 2009.
 Classes starting in March include Journaling, Stained Glass, Watercolor and Children’s Art with a Spring Break Mask Workshop on Tuesday, March 24 for ages 6-10. Upcoming classes include Dichroic Glass, Needle Felting, and Encaustic Painting using beeswax. Visit the Gallery’s website for more information.

 Bales offers Lebanese Lenten cooking demonstration
First Wednesday at Bales’ Thriftway on Wednesday, March 4 will feature local cookbook author, Linda Dalal Sawaya demonstrating Lebanese Lenten recipes from her cookbook, Alice’s Kitchen: Traditional Lebanese Cooking. The event runs from 4-7 pm. Demonstrations on how to make hommous, baba ghannouj, mjuddrah, and fattoush will be featured along with tasting these Lebanese Lenten favorites.
Linda’s cookbook will be available for sale and Linda will be signing and personalizing books. Linda’s book includes a great variety of vegetarian recipes along with traditional lamb, chicken, and fish dishes. Also included in the book are numerous soups, desserts, breads and savory pastries, and of course many Lebanese appetizers, including the popular hommous and baba ghannouj.
