A neighborhood organization in the Cedar Mill area requested additional gang information as a result of a recent Sheriff's Office News article. We will respond to specific requests from readers as readily as we can. The good news for the Cedar Mill area is that presently there is not much gang activity. The majority of the activity consists of competitive tagging, or graffiti, sprayed onto public surfaces to announce gang presence in an area.

Tepa X3 - Sureno Gang located in Beaverton, Aloha and Tualatin. 106th represents the turf claimed by TEPA in South Central Los Angeles. BRS stands for Brown Rascals and WNS stands for Winos, both are separate clicks of TEPA.

The graffiti that occurred was primarily the work of the Brown Pride Chicanas (BPC) and the Tepa 13 gangs. Both of these gangs are Sureno (or Southerners) which associate themselves with the color blue and the number 13. Surenos and Nortenos are rival gang sets, with Nortenos being the smaller of the two in our area.
The Nortenos (Northerners) associate themselves with the number 14 (or XIV), and a smaller subset called the North Side Villains (NSV). Nortenos are actively tagging in Cornelius and other areas, and law enforcement has been aggressively pursuing this matter.

If you see graffiti, always report it to law enforcement and photograph it before it's removed. This will ensure that law enforcement can use it for further investigation or to track gang activity in the affected area.

Keeping yourself informed is the first step toward combating problems related to gang activity. It is very easy for kids to find gang activity enticing. Parents need to be aware of their children's whereabouts and know who they spend time with.
