District seeks suggestions for school nameThe Beaverton School Board is seeking suggestions of possible names for the District’s new K-5 elementary school. The new school, located at 11755 NW McDaniel Road in the Cedar Mill area, will open in September 2008. It will include 21 classrooms and accommodate up to 600 students to help alleviate overcrowding at Findley Elementary School. Individuals and groups within the Beaverton School District are invited to submit name suggestions. Preference will be given to names associated with the community and names of historical persons, places and events. According to School Board policy, names of living persons will not be considered. Some people have suggested that the school should be named for the community’s naming founder, John Quincy Adams Young, or JQA Young School. The JQA Young House is just down the road at 119th and Cornell. Anyone who would like to submit name suggestions should send them by Friday, April 27, 2007 to: Beaverton School District, Communications & Community Involvement Department. 16550 S.W. Merlo Road, Beaverton, OR 97006 or email community_involvement@beaverton.k12.or.us For more information, contact the District’s Communications & Community Involvement Dept. at 503-591-4360.
