Avakian changes jobs, Greenlick decides to continue

Our former State Senator, Brad Avakian, says, “In March, my good friend Dan Gardner announced that he will step down as Oregon’s Labor Commissioner. His resignation leaves our state with an immense void—one that Governor Kulongoski has asked me to fill. I will accept this appointment and withdraw from the race to be Oregon's next Secretary of State. As Labor Commissioner, I will be able to take the fight for working families to the next level by focusing on apprenticeship training and workforce development. This will allow me to support industry's efforts to create more high-paying local jobs. As one campaign ends, another begins. This November, I will be seeking reelection to this important statewide office.”

As Mitch Greenlick begins his campaign for the November 2008 election (with no Republican opponent) he notes, “I am pleased to announce that I will seek re-election to the House of Representatives in the 2010 election. I hope my friends and colleagues will support me as I continue to work on critical items left on my legislative agenda—ensuring access to health care in Oregon, reforming the health care delivery system, improving the region’s transportation network, and moving toward the development of a world-class research university in the Portland Metropolitan area.”

“Consequently, I am not seeking an appointment to the Senate seat that will be vacated by Brad Avakian as he becomes Oregon’s Labor Commissioner. I am supporting Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (Cedar Hills) as she seeks the seat.”
