CMBA Meeting NotesCommittee activities were spotlighted during the June 10 meeting of the Cedar Mill Business Association, held for the first time in the Leedy Grange, since the library room was occupied for the summer. The Events Committee is sponsoring a Kids’ Passport Contest at the upcoming Cedar Mill Park Concert on August 7, sponsored by THPRD. To encourage folks to visit the informational booths at the concert, CMBA Welcome Squad volunteers will pass out a booklet to kids attending the concert. Children must bring a parent to each booth to receive a stamp in their passport. Filled passports will be collected during the break and prizes will be awarded at the end of the concert. Giftique (see page 1) will provide two gift baskets filled with goodies for the lucky winners. The Membership Committee worked with CMBA administrator Virginia Bruce to produce a tri-fold brochure to help them in their outreach effort. Committee members are visiting non-member businesses throughout the summer.
The Publicity Committee has organized a booth for CMBA at the Cedar Mill Farmers' Market on two Saturdays in June. Members are increasingly discovering this great benefit as a way to get the word out about their business and also to promote the organization. The Downtown Identity Committee is scheduling another weeding session for the landscape on Cornell Road for Saturday, July 12. We are also encouraging each business with frontage on Cornell to spend a few minutes on a regular basis pulling the weeds in front of their business. Remember, there’s no public agency responsible for maintenance of county roads—it’s up to us! Our Ten Minutes of Fame was presented by Cindy Compton of Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union. Cindy explained that this locally-owned organization provides better service to customers because they have the chance to know their customers, their costs are lower because they’re non-profit, so members get a higher return on their savings. Kathie England was the featured speaker. Her business, Time for Success, helps people get organized. She shared practical tips and strategies for resolving our office organization challenges. The next meeting on July 8 will be at the Grange again, with representatives of Polygon and MGH discussing the changes to the master plan and updates to the Timberland/West Village development. We’ll take a break in August—be sure to plan to attend the Park Concert!
