Update August 4The road has reopened. Northwest Cornell Road reopened after water line broke Friday afternoon
Northwest Cornell Road near 119th Avenue was reopened Sunday after a water line broke Friday afternoon. Tualatin Valley Water District crews stopped the water leak Friday, but they estimated about 1.1 million gallons of water were lost, said Frank Reed, communications coordinator with the water district. Reed said crews are still trying to determine what caused the 12-inch line to break. On Saturday morning, the water district began repairing a 230-foot section of the road, where a hole was formed after the line broke. The break occurred on Cornell north of U.S. 26, outside of Beaverton. Here's a photo, courtesy of Marilyn McWilliams, TVWD Board Member, of the broken pipe. Here's a link to the Beaverton Valley Times article about the incident and repairs. The Oregonian reports that the road may be closed for up to 4 days. In other news, accidental damage to a power line near St. Pius caused PGE power to be out to thousands of homes and businesses in the Cedar Mill area this morning, it is fixed now.
