Hiking Waterfalls in Oregon

Tuesday, April 7, 7 pm, Cedar Mill Library upstairs Community Room, free

Join author Adam Sawyer as he describes some of the most beautiful hiking destinations in the state. From the Coast Range to the Cascades, along with the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge, you can explore those special places where water cascades over cliffs. Some waterfalls are remote while others are just a short hike from the trailhead. Some are gentle trickles and others are roaring giants. Yet all of them offer a peaceful escape and are worth seeking out. No registration necessary.

Art of the Story

Friday, April 17, 7 pm, free

Washington County Cooperative Library Service's 11th Annual Storytelling Festival, Art of the Story, is April 11-18. Once again, we are welcoming a national storyteller to the Cedar Mill Library as part of the Art of the Story festival. This year we have the multi-talented Kuniko Yamamoto, who will be presenting “Origami Tales.” The event is free and suitable for age 6 and up.

Other performers in this year's festival include Judith Black, Sam Payne, Chetter Galloway, and performers from Portland's Brody Theater Company. For a full list of the countywide events, including information on all the storytellers and programs, pick up a brochure at the library or visit the WCCLS website at wccls.org/festival.

Music in Poetry, Poetry in Music: "Where Words and Music Meet"

Friday, April 24, 6:30 pm, free

Join us for a special concert celebrating National Poetry Month. Primal Mates chamber jazz duo, Chris Lee (vibraphone) and Colleen O’Brien (voice, cello), will perform poems that have been set to music, music that has been set to poems, and music by some well-known writers who were also accomplished composers.

A slide presentation accompanies the performance, with each poem projected on the screen so the audience can follow the written word with the poem being sung. After the concert, Chris and Colleen will open the floor up to questions and a discussion of the process involved. No registration necessary.
