Urban/Rural Reserves Open House

On Monday, June 16, you are invited to join a conversation about how the region will adapt to growth over the next 50 years. To build a foundation for responsible growth, Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties and Metro are collaborating in a planning process to determine where and how we will all live, work and play in the decades to come. The Open House will be at the Beaverton Resource Center, 12500 SW Allen Boulevard from 5 PM – 8 PM.

Over the next 16 months the four regional partners will cooperatively assess which areas are most suitable for future growth as well as identify areas where it is more appropriate to maintain working farms, forests and natural features for the next 40-50 years. This assessment will result in the creation of Urban Reserves and Rural Reserves.

The three counties and Metro have proposed an initial broad study area – approximately five miles outside the current Metro Urban Growth Boundary – as a starting place for considering rural or urban reserves designation. At this very early phase of the planning process, citizens are asked to weigh in on whether these are the appropriate areas to study. Open houses will be held throughout the metropolitan area over the next few weeks, providing the first opportunity for citizens to learn about urban and rural reserves and share their views.
