Milltowner retaining wall

Milltowner Redevelopment

The final section of the old Milltowner center is still there, after the major demolition, because it functions as a retaining wall for the lot to the east. A former Cedar Mill resident recalls that the building was expanded in the late ‘60s with a new wall about 20 feet east of the original wall. Unlike the original wall, the new wall and its foundation were engineered to be a retaining wall. The foundation footings are about six feet wide and a foot thick.

The work to demolish that will be part of the grading operation. Obtaining the final grading permit is complicated, with Clean Water Services and county land use passing the application back and forth until all requirements are satisfied. Bales/Findley Property Management, the developer, hopes to begin some preliminary grading later this month.

Once it is rebuilt, the center will include a second facility for Sunset Athletic, a major retailer, and a number of shops and restaurants along with office and professional space.
