There are ample opportunities to advance your gardening knowledge and skills right here in Washington County. OSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers and the Washington County Master Gardener Association (WCMGA) offer a lineup of classes, lectures and family friendly events year-round. All events and details can be found on the WCMGA events calendar.

Srijana Shrestha, Metro Area Master Gardener Program Leader, Assistant Professor of Practice, Oregon State University, will present the 2024 program highlights, showcasing key achievements, outreach efforts, and impacts. Additionally, she will share insights into some of the research projects she has worked on such as melon grafting, sweet potato production, biodegradable mulches, and tea plant propagation and production, focusing on their relevance to sustainable gardening practices. Please visit the event page for more information.

We work to protect and advocate for trees in urban unincorporated Washington County. Don’t miss our upcoming events! All of them are free. Visit the Treekeepers website to learn more.

Join us for a leisurely walk to learn about the trees and history of 68-acre Jenkins Estate. The 1½ mile route will include native woodlands, orchards, and gardens on paved and soft surface trails that include some stairs and short steep areas. The grounds, which are on the National Register of Historic Places, include a row of lovely old elm trees which are some of Oregon’s Heritage Trees. Visit the THPRD website to learn more about Jenkins Estate or the Oregontic Webpage to learn about Oregon Heritage Trees.

Join The Wetlands Conservancy and Cedar Mill community neighbors for a celebratory morning of wetland trivia, activities, and the opportunity to explore down in the mud! TWC staff and volunteers will chat with folks under the tent about what makes wetlands such important ecosystems for water quality, disaster resilience, and wildlife habitat. We’ll have small games and sidewalk chalk for kids, species ID books and educational resources for adults from 9am-1pm. Brave and curious hikers can follow along for guided tours in the lowlands to spot footprints, songbirds, dragonflies, beaver activity, and tons of native species in bloom! Please visit this event webpage for more details. Tours will be leaving at 10 am-12 pm with a max of ten participants per tour. Muck boots and good balance are required because there is no trail! Visit this map for the exact meeting location.

Cedar Mill Garden Club meets the third Wednesday of each month. During June, July, August and September we go on outings to local gardens/nurseries or other places of gardening interest. We are a small group of friendly plant enthusiasts with a desire to share the love of gardening. All levels of gardening experience is welcome. Dues is $20/year. Come learn or share your knowledge and have fun. Please contact the current President, Cathy Ramsey at cathyramsey503@gmail.com or 503-866-4222 for more information or to join.

We know many Oregon gardeners are seeing changes in weather affecting their gardening. What does this mean for your garden’s future? This year’s OSU Extension Service Growing Oregon Gardeners: Level Up series is about growing resilience in a changing climate.

We’re digging deep into the science behind invasive pests, best techniques in using less water, understanding what changes our trees are enduring, and harnessing the power of technology to identify and learn more about plants and insects. In partnership with Garden Future, we’re talking and learning about growing resilience in our gardens and communities.
