Bend like a willow

Willows are ecological heroes when it comes to providing habitat and support for wildlife year round. They help reestablish vegetation, especially along riverbanks and flooded or burned areas. And they are a vital source of food for all kinds of wildlife, in particular as a host plant for many, many types of caterpillars. You may not be the biggest fan of caterpillars, but birds are.

We all know (or should!) that pollinators are essential for growing our food. As we begin a new gardening season, let’s take a look at some of the flowers that support insects, birds, butterflies, and other species that do the work of pollination.

All three scenarios lump our area together with the northwest and southwest Portland (downtown), with the Willamette River as a dividing line. The transit needs and deficiencies of people in the Tualatin Valley are quite different to those areas, so people interested in transit may want to attend an Open House and/or provide feedback by April 15 by emailing feedback@trimet.org or calling 503-238-7433 (RIDE).
