CPO 1 will be on summer hiatus, see you on September 10.

CPO 1 starts our land use-oriented meeting by reading the county’s Land Acknowledgment statement. A recording of the meeting can be found here.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD), Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD), and Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) visited us.

If you are looking for a rewarding professional first-responder job, look into the Sheriff’s Office or TV Fire & Rescue positions. As summer progresses, many volunteer positions are still open to provide essential assistance to programs at the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District.

TVF&R has started a pilot project called the Advanced Practice Community Paramedic (APCP) program designed to help further address the 17% rise in call volume over the last 5 years, making major equipment available for critical calls. The APCPs have now completed 61 client visits, enrolled 22 new individuals in the program, identified 76 high utilizers of the 911 system (people who dial 911 six or more times in a month!), processed 21 referrals from the line, and additionally they have helped 2 clients enroll in mental health substance use and disorder programs.

The WCSO is active in the Justice Court Diversion program designed to provide targeted support for people with narcotic addiction.

For our main segment, Sergeant Josh Wilson, Traffic Safety Unit, presented on speeding, reckless driving, and car noise. Whether to issue a citation or a warning is at the discretion of the deputy. If a complaint is filed with the driver’s license plate number, a “Dear Motorist” letter can be sent by the WCSO alerting the owner to be more careful to follow the law. Any sound louder than necessary for safe operation is illegal, but hard to ascertain. Only cities are allowed to use photo enforcement systems (cameras). A PDF copy of Sergeant Wilson’s presentation is available on request from cpo1leaders@gmail.com.

Then we heard about the planned Bethany shuttle. The private, non-profit organization Ride Connection partners with TriMet and has a new shuttle service planned to connect the PCC Rock Creek Campus, Bethany and Cedar Mill to the Sunset Transit Center, although it is not planned to travel through the town center on Cornell to avoid competing with Lines 20 and 48. It will travel on Science Park Drive to serve the transit needs of employees and Sunset High students.

Check out your Ride Connection travel options here. For many of their on-demand ride services they rely on volunteer drivers so offer your time if you are able.

If you can’t attend our meetings, they are recorded and available on the CPO 1 YouTube channel for viewing at your convenience. Visit our YouTube channel and subscribe! The CPO 1 Facebook Group is a good place to discuss current issues and get timely updates.
