Sunset High School’s production of Romeo and Juliet is a fresh take on the classic show. The contemporary telling of this story is unlike anything you’ve ever seen, and you don’t want to miss it!

The Skyline Grange Artisans are a group of local artists and crafts people who create one-of-a-kind items for your home and personal well-being. A wide variety of arts and crafts are represented, including: jewelry, accessories, pottery, glass, journals, home décor, paintings, woodworks, essential oils, fiber arts, yard art, handmade preserves, dog toys, quilts, and more. Please come to our annual Holiday Arts Fair where you will find the perfect handmade gift for family or friends!

A favorite holiday event for many community family calendars will return again this year! The renowned brass ensemble creates the perfect opportunity to hear some of the world’s greatest holiday and festive music. The St. Matthew Exaltation Handbells start at 3 pm with the Brass concert starting at 3:30 pm. The 16-member ensemble spreads its sparkling brass tones through an endearing mix of holiday favorites. From traditional carols to festive arrangements for brass, the concert will warm the hearts of young and old.

This year’s free concert is a gift to the community from the Erik Weswig Memorial Fund, Beaverton Arts Commission, and other supporters of holiday music. Erik was Senior at Sunset High School and enjoyed this concert as part of his family Christmas tradition. In his memory, a Memorial Fund was established to support local events that he enjoyed. Featured Artist: Aurora Oliva: Aurora describes herself as a “pandemic artist.” She paints mostly acrylic abstracts and dabbles with other materials. “I have been creative all my life, but the quarantine forced me to rethink my life’s purpose…I have made it a full-time ‘job’ to learn and play.”

Come see new 3D art in tapestry, basketry, felting, ceramics, gourds, buttons, and more! Hear artists talk about their work and see the new show. Refreshments provided, all welcome.

Do you have skills to share or know someone who does? Village Gallery of Arts needs more teachers and more classes! A good instructor has passion for what they do, combined with people and organizational skills. If you or someone you know sounds like a good fit, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. Intermediate Watercolor Painting with Susan Pfahl
Saturdays, November 2, 9, 16, 23, 7-9:30 pm, max 8 students, $120 Members, $140 Non-members

Watercolor for those who have completed a beginning level class or have equivalent experience. Each class, we will work on building skill sets to improve our painting abilities. Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects, topics, and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.

Introduction to Watercolor Painting with Susan Pfahl
Tuesdays, November 5, 12, 19, 26, 7-9:30 pm, max 8 students, $120 Members, $140 Non-members

Each class will experiment with how the paint and paper and water react together, then paint a simple subject incorporating this “experiment.” Masterpieces are unlikely, but skills will increase. No prerequisites needed. Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.

Jewelry Making with Unique Materials with Vicki Szukalla
Wednesdays, November 6, 13, 20, 6:30-9 pm, max 6 students, $95 plus materials fee, all materials/tools provided

Treat yourself and/or others to one-of-a-kind creations! You will walk away with as many as six (likely more) pieces depending on your speed and choice of materials—just in time for the holidays! Choose from earrings, necklaces, key rings, bracelets, etc. Techniques learned can include metal stamping, disc-cutting, beading, cold-connecting, bench grinding, and drill pressing.

Introduction to Book Folding with Jeannine Bamberg
Saturday, November 9, 10 am-12 pm, max 8 students, $25

Book folding is a perfect way to repurpose old hardback books that otherwise would be destined for recycling or the land fill. It’s the art of folding the pages within books to create 3D shapes. The heart is a relatively simple one but gives you a taste of book folding.

The VGA mission is to: ignite the joy of learning, creating, and appreciating art in our community. We support professional and emerging artists by providing high quality affordable art education to children and adults as well as providing venues for sharing their work. Village Gallery of Arts is a non-profit (501c3) organization, receives no taxpayer money, and is staffed entirely by member volunteers.
