Cornell Farm Houseplant Swap

Sunday, November 10, 3-4 pm, Cornell Farm, 8212 SW Barnes Rd., free

Houseplant swaps are popping up lately everywhere you look. As people look to build their relationship with nature by bringing greenery indoors, there’s a sharing community budding right along with it.

What happens at a plant swap? People bring established plants of all sizes, some that they have recently rooted, or even just cuttings off of a bigger plant—if it’s one that another plant enthusiast can get to root with a little know-how. All of these are either traded or given away, no money is exchanged.

To facilitate this event, we will have free plant tables and negotiation plant tables available. If you have things to give away, put them on a free table. Anyone can take those plants at any time. If you have something that is maybe a little more rare, valuable, or you just want to make sure to get something in return, then you can place those on a negotiation table so people know to have a more in-depth conversation with you about the trade.

Beyond trading plants, people share knowledge, make connections, and get a peek into other people’s collections. Sometimes collectors bring special varieties that aren’t commonly available in the retail market — you never know what you’ll find!

Please feel welcome to attend this event even if you don’t have anything to trade — we all have to start somewhere! Houseplant enthusiasts are generally quite generous and you’ll likely walk away with free offerings to get you started.

We’ll have a staff member available who can help with any questions you may have about your new plants!
