THPRD clearing the trail to the western part of The Bluffs Park

Thank you to the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District Maintenance staff who have been going above and beyond to clean up from the winter storm damage. We’ve got staff who have been with us for 30+ years who have said this is some of the worst damage across the district they’ve seen in their careers. Thank you to the community for your patience—as we anticipate it will take some time to clean up the debris. We’ve got downed trees at many sites, water damage inside buildings, and more.

Downed trees blocked the trail to Bonny Slope Elementary

The Elsie Stuhr Center, Harman Swim Center, and Jenkins Estate’s Gatehouse, unfortunately, suffered extensive damage from last week’s storm. As a result of the winter storm, the Elsie Stuhr Center experienced a loss of power for multiple days, a severed data line, multiple down trees, broken pipes, flooding inside the building, and other damage. Harman Swim Center had a power outage resulting in two heating modules failing. Without the heating modules, the center did not have hot water. Staff have also been working to remove several large down trees on the property, including one that fell in the parking lot, blocking access to the back parking area. Both facilities are now open.

Several parks and natural areas across the district experienced damage and debris from the storm. Fallen trees were the largest issue we had reported. Staff are in the process of visiting all facilities, parks, trails, and natural areas to continue assessing storm damage using a map-based database tool created by the district’s park resource analyst. If you are looking to see field conditions, please visit this Field Conditions & Closures website

We will be providing refreshments as well as swag giveaways, so don’t miss it! You are our ambassadors to the district, so we want to ensure that you are well informed and answer any questions you may have. We hope to see you there!

This event is in honor of the national Women in Sports Day and is focused on creating a safe place for girls, transgender, and non-binary youth to sample different sports. Participants will have the chance to rotate between several different sports stations, learn the basic skills and rules of each sport, and play lots of fun games along the way! Families will also have the opportunity to connect with and learn about the different organizations in our community supporting girls’ athletics. Instruction is led by an all-female coaching staff. Pre-registration is highly encouraged. We will have limited walk-up registration available on the day of the event as well.
