Community comes together at Leedy Grange Hall! Join us for a day of free activities for all ages and abilities with our talented members, including swing, social and salsa dance classes, early music education activities, adapted movement and dance, line and folk dancing, crafts and scouting activities, martial arts and more!

The day’s activities will culminate with a fundraiser dance open to the community—all ages and abilities are invited to join! Only $10 adults, $5 students, kids under 10 are free. Come meet the Featured Artist, the Big and Bold Artist, and see the new show! Refreshments provided. Come celebrate VGA’s newest members’ art. There is wonderful variety and a great opportunity to talk with others about art.

Big and Bold Painting: Chris Kondrat: “Hallucinations: The first layer of this work was organic shapes drawn on tinfoil which had ink on the back, a simplified print process. You can see the black and red ink throughout the painting. Next layer is watercolor on various parts of the shapes. Lastly there are a few collaged shapes. The mushrooms gave me the idea for the title.”

Featured 3-D Fine Art Crafts Artist: Carolyn Adams: Book Purses. “While I draw and paint a bit, I generally think of myself as a folk artist, because I enjoy creating art from everyday objects. I’m a poet and I love the written word. Books have always felt like treasures to me. So I create book purses to use the structure of a book in an unusual way, while still referencing and paying homage to the book as a repository of art itself.”

Illuminated letters were popular in the Middle Ages when there was no light other than daylight, candlelight or fire light. They were made to catch the available light to gain the attention of the reader. Students can create their own illuminated letter, or use a pre-drawn letter from the instructor, size 4” x 6”. These letters can be decorated with gold or silver paint and other colors to create a small work of art. All materials included. When you register please say which letter you would like to make.

Come and get your hands dirty! Experiment with techniques and try a variety of tools. An instructor will be available for any questions and assistance. The drop-in fee covers the use of materials and clay while you are creating. If you like what you make you can keep it forever by paying additional fees for glaze and firing. This is a no pressure environment for all ages. If you have always wanted to give ceramics a try this workshop is for you!

Join an exciting class learning a variety of art forms! A team of rotating instructors provides a chance to explore a variety of media and approaches while building artistic concepts and skills. Each class we will experiment with how the paint and paper and water react together. Then we will paint a simple subject incorporating this “experiment” into our work. Masterpieces are unlikely, but skills will increase. No prerequisites needed. Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.

Watercolor for those who have completed a beginning level class or have equivalent experience. Each class, we will work on building skill sets to improve our painting abilities.
