Tumwater Middle School bring us a story of small-town high school life, filled with music and dance!

The Reser and The City of Beaverton/Beaverton Arts Program are excited to announce the new public art installation, Across Oceans, by Portland artist Kanani Miyamoto. Made up of hundreds of hand-carved, cut, and pulled prints, the work features beautiful, stylized imagery that celebrates common connections.

Across Oceans wraps the window façades at The Reser and the entrance to the Beaverton Building at City Hall, combining traditional printmaking practices, Eastern art aesthetics, and Hawaiian philosophy. The imagery signifies the coming together of people from distant lands across bodies of water that connect, not divide us.

The public is invited to join the festivities at the Reveal Party as we celebrate our first ever large-scale ‘printstallation’. Participants are encouraged to meet the artist, view the work, and see the materials and woodblocks used to create the masterpiece. For more information about upcoming Across Oceans programs, please visit The Reser website

The Portland team of GiGi’s Playhouse will be opening a center for individuals with Down syndrome and others with similar challenges in Portland this summer and invites you to a fundraiser called the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge. The fundraiser aims to raise awareness about Down syndrome, its impact on families, and the valuable services GiGi’s Playhouse will offer in the Northwest. Venders and sponsors are also invited to participate.

Vendors can showcase family-friendly products or services and engage attendees with carnival-style games. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for those who wish to support the cause without being a vendor.

The funds raised will also help open the doors to GiGi’s Playhouse Portland, a place that will provide free therapeutic, educational, and vocational services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families. More than just a center, GiGi’s Playhouse will serve as a hub for community engagement and support. Through events like the GiGiFIT Acceptance Challenge, the Playhouse aims to promote inclusivity and foster connections within the community.

To become a sponsor, please visit the GiGi’s Playhouse Portland website. For more information, contact us at portland@gigisplayhouse.org. Join us in supporting GiGi’s Playhouse Portland as we strive to educate, inspire, and believe in the potential of individuals with Down syndrome. Together, we can create a more inclusive and accepting community for all.

In each beginner’s level class, we will experiment with how the paint and paper and water react together. Then we will paint a simple subject incorporating this “experiment” into our work. Masterpieces are unlikely, but skills will increase. No prerequisites needed. Returning students are welcome to repeat this course. New projects and techniques will be presented in each subsequent series of this class.
