Washington County K9 Trials

We are thrilled to announce our most anticipated community event, the Washington County K9 Trials, where law enforcement K9 teams showcase their skills and compete for first place! Hosted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office Foundation, this fun event offers an exciting opportunity for families to learn more about the incredible K9 units dedicated to protecting our communities. K9 trials competition is from 11-1, safety fair from 10-12, vendor fair from 10-1 (more information here). Family and friends of all ages are encouraged to join us for this impressive celebration of our dedicated K9 units. We can’t wait to see you there! WCSO Foundation supports the K9 programs and more

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Foundation raises money to provide funding for programs and/or services which are not part of the regular budget. It was established in 1995 as a non-profit corporation.

A recent fundraising project provided $18,000 to purchase and train a special drug-detecting dog for the jail. As the application noted, “Illicit drugs inside of jails has always been a problem, but the recent prevalence of Fentanyl has made almost all illisict drugs more potent and therefore more dangerous…staff in the Washington County Jail have been managing more and more frequent overdoeses and drug seizures…They currently have one narcotic detection dog on the K9 team, but that dog is dedicated to the patrol division and even more specifically to the Westsside Interagency Narcotics Team…The requested funds will cover the cost of a pre-trained narcotic detection dog, to include familiarization training by the vendor for the new handler.”

Currently the Foundation is raising money to buy a new van for the Search and Rescue (SAR) Team. The team has 50-60 Cadets, ranging in ages from 14-21, and 14 Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputies. The SAR team responds to local and state-wide searches, rescues, and evidence-searches. The current 25-year-old 15-passenger van needs replacing. The Sheriff’s Foundation of Washington County is raising $70,000 for this urgent need. The WCSO Foundation Board is representative of the area served and includes members from county neighborhoods, businesses, and community participation organizations. All board members live or work in Washington County. Members of the foundation are citizen volunteers and local business leaders who donate their time and provide leadership and experience to raise or solicit funds for the programs in need. The Sheriff’s Office Foundation is the only organization authorized to raise funds on behalf of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. The Board responds to grant requests for a variety of public-safety-related projects.
