Exit 21
Erick Siffert started Exit 21 Apparel Solutions LLC, an apparel consulting company, in 2009, after 20 years working at Nike and three years at lululemon. The company moved into their office on the upper level of the new Milltowner Center last fall, relocating from Old Town Portland because it had just gotten too dangerous.

Opinion: Re-Imagining the Hillsboro Airport
According to a Feb. 14, 2021, Oregonian article, “The Port of Portland is considering a major overhaul…the restructuring is part of a sweeping philosophical shift away from facilitating trade for powerful business interests to a ‘shared prosperity initiative’ intended to spread the wealth to people of color, the poor and the marginalized. In some cases, that could mean selling off profitable operations in order to pursue these new, broader aims, which are taking root amid a resurgent civil rights movement.”

Robert “Mr. James” Newcomer 1931-2022
Hundreds if not thousands of people in Cedar Mill had their hair done by Mr. James at his salon in the old Milltowner location. The shop was unpretentious but offered skilled cutting and styling along with a variety of select hair products. It was the first “Featured Business” in Cedar Mill News shortly after we began!

Hard-to-recycle items and Ridwell in Washington County
In 2018, a new company began offering a recycling service to 60 homes in the Seattle area. By November 2020 they expanded to Portland. We’re not exactly sure when they started offering their service in our area, but it quickly became popular. Ads regularly popped up on the neighborhood NextDoor social media feed.

College this Fall? It’s not too late to apply for Portland Community College
As an academic and career advisor, I have been working with students that are preparing for college this fall. With the anticipation that many colleges and universities will be providing online-only classes for the fall 2020 term and perhaps into winter/spring 2021, some of my students are now seeking alternatives to paying higher tuition.
