The Opal Apartments bring diversity and affordability to downtown Cedar Mill

On April 11, we gathered at the newest building in Cedar Mill to celebrate The Opal, at the corner of Dogwood and Saltzman, opposite the library. County officials, employees from Friendly House, Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) members and leaders, and people from around the community joined prospective tenants in celebrating the beautiful new five-story apartment building.

The recently announced opening on the Planning Commission (PC) was the result of the resignation of Stacy Milliman who is moving out of Washington County. She was one of two Commissioners appointed by Nafisa Fai, Washington County Board of Commissioners (BCC) member representing District 1. Commissioner Fai will nominate a replacement who will be confirmed by a vote of the BCC at an upcoming meeting.

CMCC raising funds to replant trees

We were all shocked and saddened when we saw the devastation to our beautiful, forested parks, in addition to the damage to peoples’ homes and yards. Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation Department (THPRD) crews worked hard to remove hazard trees and clear trails like the one in the Bluffs Park leading to Bonny Slope Elementary.
One of our neighbors suggested that we might want to help THPRD in the replanting effort that will take place this fall. We reached out to THPRD to make sure we could do this and were given a go-ahead. Funds can be deposited to the Cedar Mill Community Club (CMCC) account at Sunset Credit Union, or you can donate here with our GoFundMe project. Funds will be held until plans are in place for renovating the natural areas.
