“A Better Red” increases Red Line airport service

The project will extend the MAX Red Line west into Hillsboro and Beaverton to serve 10 more stations. The Red Line currently only runs between the Beaverton Transit Center and PDX. It will also build a new Gateway North Station for trains coming from PDX, and improve track between the Gateway Transit Center and Portland International Airport. The goal is to increase reliability on the Red Line and keep trains running on time throughout the entire MAX light rail system. 

The Federal Transit Authority recently announced a $99.9 million construction grant award to TriMet for  the project. Construction has begun. The new service begins in 2024. Sign up here to get TriMet updates in your inbox.
