With some effects of climate change already upon us, we challenge Washington County to view all their actions through the lens of climate.
If we don’t stop contributing to the problem, our efforts at achieving equity will be meaningless. The powerful will find ways to avoid the consequences, and the rest of us will have to adapt to a planet that may not support the life we want for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.
Washington County should establish a Climate Challenge Task Force to advise all county divisions on how to establish goals, make climate friendly decisions, and implement sustainable practices. The Task Force needs to include representatives from commerce, industry, development, science, and community organizations.
We understand that it will take time and effort, but we must begin now. If you agree, send a message to your Washington County Commissioner and to the Chair.
County leaves ped-bike safety on the table
People who want safer routes for bicycles and pedestrians look to Washington County to, if not build them, at least encourage them. In some cases, a developer is required to build them when new houses go in.

The head of the CDC challenged us all to do our part to make sure we conquer COVID by getting folks vaccinated. I’ve included updated vaccination information above, but I’d also like to share some reasons to do it. Sometimes we’re motivated by knowing what our neighbors care about.

Target application is approved, turn lane can stay for now
Washington County has approved the application to allow Target to move into the former Bales grocery location. There was considerable anxiety over a possible Land Use and Transportation (LUT) requirement to close the left turn lane from Cornell into the lot, but in a decision sent out on March 25, LUT has decided it can remain “on a temporary basis until such time as alternative access meeting the access spacing standards becomes available—providing that [they] continue to operate safely.”

Do you want to be a seed saver?
You can save seed from heirloom vegetables that will look and taste like the original plants. But be careful, hybrids may produce sterile seed or none at all. If they do yield viable seed it will produce plants like one or the other parent plant. In other words you get inconsistent results.

If you are registered to vote in Oregon, you’ll receive a ballot in your mail around the end of April, followed by the Voters Pamphlet a few days later. April 27 is the last day to register or update your registration.
